“No place in the world better than my conscious…” has become one of my favorite affirmations. It is the beginning of the mix tape A U R A by artist Clara Kent which eventually led to the creation of a craft beer in her honor! So, when I listened to her clear super hero vocals soaring into the sky and her center of Earth rhymes rooted in the most ancient areas of our diaspora, I was instantly a fan. I have watched her support and collaborate with the R&B/Soul powerhouses INEZ and Simone Davis. I have watched her pour her heart into performances that left audiences reaching out, smiling bright and pledging themselves to “all love, no hate.” Clara Kent is the honey in the rock our songstress foremothers promised us. She is light, love, and peace. Yeah, scratch that earlier statement, I guess I’m actually a STAN!
I learned recently that Clara was doing all of this while battling illness and seeking medical care in the city of Pittsburgh where mere months earlier Black womxn asserted that despite the damning research, we would survive and we would thrive. As I seek to be accountable to that commitment, I vowed to help Clara who is of Oglala Lakota, Ojibway, and African descent, in any way I could. We are now beginning her road to the resources she needs for that surviving and thriving. I humbly ask those of you who are able, to join me in supporting her healing with a financial contribution. You can donate via GoFundMe, through Cash App: $bouncehousepgh or Venmo: bouncehousepgh. Let’s get Clara Kent back to that bounce we love so much!
